36 Fleetwood Road North is shown on many old photographs of Thornton and is easily identified by its porch at the front.  Despite some external improvements it still retains most of its original character and this can be seen in the picture below.  In the early days the front room of this house was used as the first bank for the people of Thornton.

Early 20c looking north along Fleetwood Road, showing number 36 on the right.  This unmade road was the main route to Fleetwood and one of the busiest in the district.
