Corbels | | block of stone projecting from a wall, supporting some feature on it’s horizontal top surface. |
| Cornice | | moulded ledge projecting along the top of a building or feature. |
| Cupola | | small dome on a circular or polygonal base crowning a roof. |
| Crockets | | leafy knobs on the edges of a feature. |
| Dormer | | window standing up vertically from the slope of a roof. |
| Dressings | | smoothly worked stones projecting from the wall, sometimes different colour or texture. |
| Embrasure | | an opening in a wall for firing through. |
| Fascia | | plain horizontal band. |
| Finial | | decorative topmost feature above a gable spire or cupola. |
| Fleche | | slender spire on the centre of a roof, sometimes a vent. |
| Gable | | area of wall, often triangular, at the end of a double pitched roof. |
| Gargoyles | | carved or shaped water spout projecting from the parapet of a wall or tower. |
| Geometric | | consisting chiefly of circles. |
| Gothic | | period of medieval architecture characterised by the use of the pointed arch. |
| Hip | | roof with sloped instead of vertical ends. |
| Hooded | | moulding above an arch or lintel. |
| Keystone | | middle or topmost stone in an arch. |
| Lancets | | slender pointed arch window. |
| Lintel | | horizontal stone or beam bridging an opening. |
| Louvre | | series of overlapping boards placed within a window opening. |
| Lucarne | | small window in a roof or spire. |
| Modillion | | small consoles at regular intervals along the underside of a cornice. |
| Mullion | | vertical member between the lights of a window or opening. |
| Overlight | | upper window section, above a transom or door. |
| Parapet | | wall for protection at a sudden drop. |
| Pediment | | formalised gable derived from that of a temple, also used over doors or windows. |
| Pilaster | | representation of a classical column in flat relief against a wall. |
| Pinnacles | | tapering finial on a buttress or tower, sometimes dressed with crockets. |
| Pitched | | roof with vertical ends. |
| Plinth | | projecting base beneath a wall or column. |
| Purlin | | a horizontal longitudinal timber. |
| Quoins | | dressed stones at the corners of a building. |
| Rendered | | uniform covering, often painted, to give weather protection. |
| Return | | The sides of a building. |
| Sill band | | continuation of a window sill across the surface of a wall. |
| Sill | | horizontal member at the bottom of a window or doorframe. |
| Soffit | | underside of an arch or eaves. |
| Soldier course | | row of vertically placed bricks, often directly above a window or door for it’s full width or used to mimic sill bands. |
| String course | | stone course or moulding projecting from the surface of a wall. |
| Tracery | | intersecting ribwork in the upper part of a window. |
| Transom | | horizontal member between the lights in a window opening. |
