Front entrance door, which looks to be original has a keystone in the brick arch above bearing the inscription "B.F. Hesketh esq 1803".
Description ( from Images of England )
Set well back from the road, Marsh Farmhouse can only be seen during the winter months, it’s one of Thornton’s oldest surviving houses. Built as one of the many farmhouses in the area it no longer operates as a farm.
The reference to B.F. Hesketh above the door probably relates to Bold Fleetwood Hesketh who was the Lord of the Manor. His inscription also survives today on the lintel above the main entrance door to the windmill at Marsh Mill, Thornton.
