Sharples

31st July 2010

Hello, I am tracing the direct line of my Father, 'William Sharples of Fleetwood'.  I have traced his

line as such, William-William-James-William.  I believe the last William was the young boy, aged 2

months, who appears in the 1841 Census of Thornton.  Mother is Ellen Sharples, age 20,

Grandmother also Ellen Sharples, age 60.  They lived at 'Back of Chapel'Thornton. In 1851 Census,

only Grandma aged 71 and William aged 9 are listed at 53 Occupation Lane, Thornton.

I was wondering if anyone in Thornton would be so kind as to tell me the story of how they came to

be in there predicament.  Was there a Mr Sharples, what happened to Ellen age 20, whome I

assume was Williams Mother. Was William illagitimate.  Also when did Grandma die.  I know she is

listed as a Pauper aged 71, how did she survive before though. Does anyone know how they lived

too, the dwellings ect. I do hope someone will be able to help. In case anyone is wondering, William

seemed to do ok for himself later.  He married a Thornton girl named Jane, in 1863, they eventualy

settled in Fleetwood and had 6 children, and I believe William died at the grand age of 86 in 1927.

Hopefully someone will know and be able to help, thankyou-Fran.
