Situated across the road from Marsh Mill, Fishers Fold in the early 1800's appears to have been an area for industry.  In 1840 there was a Wheelwright, a Grocer and a Shoe Maker. By the 1850's the area was becoming more fashionable with a School Mistress and a Landed Proprietor in residence.  By 1900 though, with the steady growth of the population and the building of new shops on Ramper Road, many of the houses remained empty.
