Gala Day - June 1909

Photograph kindly Donated

A splendid procession as far as the eye can see with 32 entrants.  The Rose Queen was crowned and Morris Dancers entertained.

This photo is taken from Thornton Crossing and is quite a turn out considering the number of inhabitants of Thornton at the time.  Families would save all year for Gala Day, or Club Day as it was also known, which was the highlight of the year in the days before TV and theme parks.
