Thornton Cleveleys Fire Brigade - 1939

Photograph courtesy of Blackpool Library

The above photograph is a personal entry as it contains my Grandfather who was killed in 1943 whilst on duty at the age of 39.

His coffin was carried to Christ Church on a fire engine, draped in the Union Jack, on which were placed his accoutrements.  The cortege was lead by 80 firemen who formed a guard of honour at the Church.
