Kelly's Post Office Directory 1864

 

Kelly's Directory is an alphabetical Trade Directory which was

 a forerunner for todays Yellow Pages.

   It lists residents along with their trade's and address.

 

 

Thornton

 

THORNTON is a township, in the parish of Poulton,

joining Poulton township on the north-west, and Fleet-

wood on the south-east, in the Poulton-le-Fylde county

court district.  The township is very extensive, principally

agricultural.  Thornton church is a neat small building,

erected in 1835, consisting of nave, chancel and square

tower, with 1 bell, and organ : there are 323 sittings, 193

of which are free : there is a neat stone font, with wood

cover.  The living is a perpetual curacy, annual value £105,

in the gift of trustees, and held by the Rev. Isaac Durrant,

M.A., of Quee's College, Cambridge.  Ther is a Wes-

leyan chapel.  The population in 1861 was 5,084; the acre-

age is 9,730.
