Lease for Lands at Stanah: 9th March 1830

 

This document was one of two but due to the condition of the main document we are unable to show it.  It is extremely large and is made up of 4 sheets joined at the bottom by a row of seals.  Being written on velum and folded we were not allowed to open it up fully so couldn't copy the contents.  We did however manage to copy a plan from the back of one of the sheets.  The seperate Indenture document which is in excellent condition is transcribed below.

THIS INDENTURE made the ninth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty BETWEEN William Bonny of Blackpool in the County of Lancaster Gentleman John Crookall of Poulton in the said County Yeoman Thomas Silcock late of Thornton but now of Chorley mmmmmmmmm in the said County Yeoman Alice Silcock of Carrhouses within Thornton aforesaid Spinster Thomas Green of Preston in the said County Carter and Ellen his wife John Horrocks of Preston aforesaid Painter and Agnes his wife Betty Silcock of Carrhouses aforesaid Spinster and Ann Silcock of Carrhouses aforesaid Widow of the one part and Richard Harrison of Bankfield within the Township of Great and Little Singleton in the said County Esquire of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of five shillings apiece of lawful money of Great Britain to the said William Bonny John Crookall Thomas Silcock Alice Silcock Thomas Green and Ellen his wife John Horrocks and Agnes his wife Betty Silcock and Ann Silcock in hand well and truly paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged they the said William Bonny John Crookall Thomas Silcock Alice Silcock Thomas Green and Ellen his wife John Horrocks and Agnes his wife Betty Silcock and Ann Silcock HAVE and each and every of them hath bargained and sold and by these presents DO and each and every of them DOTH bargain and sell unto the said Richard Harrison his executors administrators and assigns ALL those several closes closures or parcels of land with the appurtenances lying and being at or near Staynoe within Thornton aforesaid formerly called and known by the several name and names of the Little Bank the Salt coat Hill and Harps with one with one Salt coat or Sand floor thereunto belonging the Bank Hey lying near WyerSide the Little Swire the Mill Flepp and the Swains but which said premises now consist of four closes of land known by the several names and containing the several quantities hereinafter mentioned namely the Swires three acres three roods and six perches the Mill Stoop two acres two roods and thirty eight perches the Bank Hey three acres two roods and thirty one perches and the Ramper one rood and eight perches all which premises contain by admeasurement ten acres two roods and three perches of Land of the customary measure of seven yards and a half to the rod or pole or thereabouts be the same more or less or howsoever otherwise the said Closes of Land or any of them have been at any time heretofore called or known And all and every lands meadows pastures commons common of pasture and turbary woods underwoods mines delfs quarries hedges fences ditches ways waters watercourses liberties easements privileges advantages and appurtenances whatsoever to the said lands and hereditaments belonging or therewith usually enjoyed And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof with their and every of their appurtenances TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said closes of land and hereditaments and all and singular other the premises above mentioned and intended to be hearby bargained and sold with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Richard Harrison his executors administrators and assigns from the day next before the day of the date of these presents for and during and unto the full end and term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete and ended FIELDING? AND PANING? therefore unto the said William Bonny John Crookall Thomas silcock Alice Silcock Thomas Green and Ellen his wife John Horrocks and Agnes his wife Betty Silcock and Ann Silcock their heirs and assigns the rent of one pepper corn on the last day of the said term if the same shall be lawfully demanded to the intent and purposes that by virtue of these presents and by force of the Statute made for the transferring of uses into possession he the said Richard Harrison may be in the actual possession of the said closes of land and hereditaments and all and singular other the premises above mentioned and intended to be hereby bargained and sold and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and may thereby be enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the reversion and inheritance thereof to him and his heirs to for and upon such uses ends intents and purposes as by and Indenture already prepared and intended to bear date the next after the date of these presents and made between the said William Bonny and John Crookall of the first part Thomas Silcock and Ellen his wife and Alice Silcock Thomas Green and Ellen his wife John Horrocks and Agnes his wife and Betty Silcock of the second part Ann Silcock of Carrhouses aforesaid Widow of the third part Richard Silcock of Thornton aforesaid Warrener of the fourth part the said Richard Harrison of the fifth part and Joseph Harrison of Preston aforesaid Gentleman of the sixth part shall be declared or expressed of and concerning the same IN WITNESS whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written #
