Memory: Rose Cottage, Raikes Road

It belonged to Mr & Mrs Kirby who during WW2, took in 2 evacuees Bruce and Elizabeth, knew them both.  I think their parents were killed in the Blitz, Bruce died & the cottage was left to Elizabeth, the story is that a local Builder and a farmer wanted to build on Lambs Hill and wanted an alternative entrance, so he offered Elizabeth a Blank Cheque Plus a new house to sell it to him (Alledgedly)

Planning consent was not applied for when it became obvious that there was no chance, possibly thats why there are Car Boot Sales on Lambs Hill (The Illawalla syndrome).  Make it an eyesore then you'll get planning consent, lesser of two evils.
