The Knife and Dagger
The Knife and Dagger, also known as the Burn Naze Club, was situated on Heys Street adjoining Edward Street. A conveyance document shows that the land was originally sold on the 26th August 1899 with the building being erected some time before 1901.
It opened as the Knife and Dagger and was run as a pub until c1950 when it closed its doors for the last time at 11.45pm under the landlordship of a Mr Taylor and his wife.
A local lady recalls having been on a night out to the Tower Ballroom and when she got off the train at Burn Naze Station there was a mass of activity outside the club. Police and other officials were milling around amongst many well known faces including her mother, father, sister and brother in law. The local drinkers had noticed a lot of people coming towards the pub but had not been alarmed as they presumed they were off the boats at Fleetwood. They were all fined 25 shillings for drinking out of hours, apart from the sister who was only drinking shandy so was let off. The Knife and Dagger never opened it’s doors again.
The building was later taken over by Fleet Builders some time prior to 1968. Today the lower floor is used for storage and the upper floor is Ralphs Gym however if you take a closer look next time you drive past, it quite clearly still has the appearance of a pub.
