The Towers, shown on the 1892 map as Thornton Villa, was situated at the heart of the Thornton Estate.  It was built by the Horrocks family and was initially used as a shooting lodge before later became Highfield College.  It was demolished around 1970 and the area is now an open wood still known today as The Towers.
